PSYCHIC LANDSCAPES | a solo exhibition of works by Betsy Walton at ZINC contemporaryJun 6 - Jul 13, 2019
Woosh is a dream space where the psyche lives. It is a passage through a dark night of the soul by ancestors or spirit guides or inner voices. Depicting the universal or collective unconscious /unseen energies flowing through individuals. It connects isolated individuals in difficult circumstances - a rock formation with a steep drop off everywhere
"The central figure is wrapped in a hybrid jellyfish/cloud/brain. I think of this as her personal atmosphere. It obscures her view (cloud), stings a little bit (jellyfish), and overthinks (exaggerated brain). She is crossing the gap between two distinct places along a beam of energy moving from right to left. The background shows a sunrise like gradient moving towards a dark sky with a papery moon and a lightning cave. A new day is dawning." – Betsy Walton
