Contemporary artist Hibiki Miyazaki lives and works in Portland, Oregon. With a background in intaglio printmaking, drawing, and engraving, her oeuvre includes an assemblage of mixed media materials.
Her fantastical and mysterious imagery emerges improvisationally, using her stores of references including vintage magazines, old photographs, and retro printed ephemera as ample inspiration.
Her dreamlike narrative scenes include the artist’s interest in wry humor, ambiguity, and psychological tensions. The element of mystery in her work is intended to be a catalyst to trigger personal association in the viewer’s mind.
“I like the combination of slow, detailed mark-making and fast, childlike energetic mark-making.
The fast mark-making is a response to the sometimes precious slow mark-making at the start.”
