"As I painted them, I became interested in how dangerous and confusing campfire scenes are. Roasting Marshmallows has ghost animals and ghost hands. It is difficult to tell what is real and what is imagined. The marshmallow eaters become like the people who swallow flaming swords. The dog tries to protect the kids, but seems dangerously close to the flames. It’s getting darker." –Ashley Norwood Cooper
