JAW BREAKER: a solo exhibition of works by Liz Tran
ZINC contemporary is please to present a solo exhibiton by Liz Tran. In this new show, Tran debuts a tooth-breaking, mouthwatering JaWbReAkEr mixed media series inspired by the rock hard candy the show is titled for. Tran’s paintings and installation pieces are a warning - the journey to truth can be powerful, painful and sweet.
Tran’s bold works are doused in layers of paint and ink . The accumulation of splatters, strokes and collage pile up on the surface- as irresistible as a stuffed candy jar and as mesmerizing as Seattle’s sticky gum wall. Tran’s works are playful yet potent. Her intuitive process attempts to counteract darkness in the world and boosts grounded optimism and happiness.
“I feel as though a good part of the country is processing the status of our political climate and the health of our nation. We have to find the truth in our situation before we can right the wrongs and move forward. That’s what's been on my mind while making this body of work,” Tran says on her JaWbReAkEr series.
“Liz’s new work is an overload to the senses, a spontaneous layering of color, that grabs at your visual cortex and leads you to rethink the sugar highs and false promises you have just ingested. Something ominous lingers just outside of the frame,” adds ZINC contemporary director Laura Zeck.
