Most of my work is very much built one brushstroke at a time. With the Flying Buttress series I’m placingemphasis on that notion of building, both by stacking the brushstrokes in more of an intentional brick-laying pattern as well as referencing one of the most visually beguiling structures in architectural history, the flying buttress, through a loose “X” form. In a delightful coincidence, not without amusing word play, the resulting compositions also suggest the wings and scales of butterflies which of course also possessan inspiring graceful strength.
