“I’ve always loved vintage illustrations from the ’30s through the ’50s from the West as well as from India and Chinese propaganda art. Watching Hitchcock films and movies of that era, the colors and aesthetics of that time are so irresistible. There is always a darker undercurrent of tension beneath the retro-perfect facade that pulls me in, which may explain the touch of darker mystery in my work. I’m also very influenced by the work of the early Italian Renaissance painter, Piero Della Francesca (1414-1492), and all the incredible Flemish painters of the 15th through 17th centuries.”
